Think Out Loud? Yes, Please!

Think Out Loud LinkupGet ready for the randomness!

  • Last week I linked up with the TOL group, but had a glitch in my post. So hopefully this week will go better.
  • I like nice things and top brands, who doesn’t?! But I also am extremely frugal prudent economical when it comes to spending my hard earned dollars. I’m not afraid to admit I LOVE consignment shops — brick and mortar consignment is my preference, but I can online shop with the best of them. Some of my greatest purchases have been from small town consignment shops. I have a pair of Stuart Weitzman heels that I paid less than $20 for and a mint condition Kate Spade tote that I bought for under $100. These products are 100% genuine and purchased in tiny towns that the shop owner just didn’t know what they had. I almost felt guilty for paying so little! I also should confess that I have a notion to go to garage sales. I once purchased a pair of suede TOMS wedges (never been worn!) for $2!

Do the right shoes make your workday better? They do mine! @stuart_weitzman #loveshoes

  • I really want to get my CPT through NASM. I’ve never even said this phrase out loud, so this is a big step for me. I’m hesitant because of a) the cost (see #2 above about being cheap) and b) what do I want to do once I have it? I think that I’d continue to do what I’m doing (working full time in a career outside of fitness) but that I’d work to build an online platform that has some credibility behind it. Anyway, step one is to say it out loud and now I have!SparklyRunnerGirl
  • I’m giving up on training for the half marathon that I was planning on running on May 7. First, I had Plantar Fasciitis and took 2 weeks off. Then, I struggled to get my mileage back up. Finally, I registered for this race because my husband registered as well. He now has a stress fracture and can’t run. I know it will be like putting salt in a wound if I run it and he has to watch from the sidelines. I feel a little like a quitter, but I’m going to bow out now and train for something that my heart is in.

That’s about all the randomness that I have for today. If you’ve gotten to this far, thanks for sticking with me! I’m linking up with Amanda at Running With Spoons, so head over there and comment away!

Until Next Time,
Meg

Hooray for Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Thinking-Out-Loud2

Today I am linking up with Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursday. Thank you Amanda for hosting this super fun link-up!

Friends! It has been a long time and I have much to tell you and, in sticking with the theme — it will be random!

You're HiredI have a job — yay me! As most of you know, due to a relocation this summer, I have been without a full time job. Currently, I have been a freelance writer for the website Fashion Week and that has been a lot of fun and different than anything I have done before. In addition to that, I had explored several possibilities and finally landed a really great opportunity in a field that I am truly passionate about – Economic/Community Development and Marketing/Communications. I am thrilled and I start Monday!

clockDaylight Savings Time – I’m sure you are all aware that Daylight Savings Time ends on Saturday/Sunday. For some of us, this is viewed as a life-saver and for others, it messes up their sleep patterns and they are grumpy for the next 30 days. I, for one, love to fall back, to have an extra hour of sleep, for the sun to be nearly up when I go for a run. I am especially excited this year because it will be just in time for me to start my new job and new routine!

If you recall, I set a goal for myself this year to run 1000 miles by the end of 2015. If you don’t recall, you can check out my goals here. Right now, I am at 750 miles and the goal is within reach, but still quite far away. I got behind this summer with the move, logging only 73 miles in May and June. I am paying for those months now and the outlook is bleak. With my job starting next week, I am a little worried. Stay tuned on whether or not I can get those last 250 miles in the next two months!

My final random thought for today is to shamelessly talk about a new product that I LOVE!

I received two Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks from Influenster a month ago and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! They are from the Rouge Pur Couture collection. The colors that I received are No. 19 Fuchsia and No. 9 Rose Pink. See my LinkedIn pic at left for a visual on the Rose Pink. Another fun fact, I wore it to my job interview! The fuchsia is super fun and I’ve been wearing it everywhere! See below:

The packaging is also super cool. It’s in the YSL iconic gold tubes — beautiful!

So that’s it! Those are my random thoughts of the day. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to visit the other blogs in the link-up!

Until Next Time,
Meg

Thinking Out Loud: My Week in Pictures

Thinking-Out-Loud2

Friends! It has been a super long time since I linked up with Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursdays and I have missed it! This is one of my favorite link-ups because it can be totally random and sometimes I need random!

This week, I’m showcasing my week (or maybe my September) with photographs. Enjoy!

image new haircut!

I got my hair cut at the beginning of the month. I adored my long hair, but this summer I was pretty hard on it and did not get regular trims and it was starting to look pretty tacky, so to bring it back to healthy — I chopped it off!  The short hair has been fine since I’m not working, but when I go to fix it, I really miss the ease of my long hair. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I have been second guessing not going shorter. I mean if I’m going to go for a major change, why not go for it?! What do you think? Leave it or go a bit shorter?

As most of you know, we relocated this summer and now we live in an awesome old house in the country. We have been super busy with renovations, but did manage to take some time this past weekend to try out our “new” makeshift fire pit at our little pond. It was super fun! We made s’mores, did a little fishing (saw a super gross spider — see below), and played a hide and seek game in the dark under a full moon. We made some great memories!

This picture does not do justice to the amazing sunrises that we have been having lately. This one was taken the morning after the eclipse. Did you all see the eclipse of the super moon? AWE-SOME!

Yes — super gross! For those of you that are fascinated by all things nature and spider-y, this spider was a mamma spider and had hundreds (seemed like thousands) of tiny baby spiders all over her body. When I tapped the camping chair to get her off, they fled and It. Was. Aweful. I cannot believe that I did not wet my pants. I am super afraid of spiders, though living in the country I am getting braver, but EEEEK!

Ahhh, National Coffee Day….need I say more? Oh, ps: I have been enjoying cereal with milk in the mornings, which I haven’t done in forever! This is Raisin Bran Crunch with skim – delish!

Coke ZeroThis was meant to be. I opened the cooler at the supermarket and there was my name so I had to have it! Those Coca Cola marketers are just pure Genius with a capital G!

I’ll end with this. I saw this super cute wood sign at our Hobby Lobby that recently opened. I purchased a canvas and plan to make one similar. I love this saying, “Make it Happen”. You can sit by and complain about all the things you aren’t happy with — or you can make a change and make things happen!

Happy Thursday! Happy October! Make it a great one!

Until Next Time,
Meg

Hooray For Thinking Out Loud Thursday!

Thinking-Out-Loud2I have so much to update you on, however it is all so random that it is perfect for me to compose this post to link-up with Amanda at Running With Spoons on Thursdays Are For Thinking Out Loud!

First things first: We are moving in less than a week! YIKES! Are you ready, you might ask. And I would tell you say, “ready or not…”

Our house is a disaster of boxes and loose items. I can’t find anything, but we are making progress. We did take a large load of furniture down to storage and hopefully we only have 2-3 trips left. The goal is to have an empty house at least one full day before the closing (so I can clean and not leave any embarrassing dust bunnies or unidentifiable substances behind the kitchen appliances).

Second: I just finished reading the most wonderful book with my 11 year old daughter. The book is called Wonder and was one that her teacher picked out. It is an amazing story about a 5th grade boy who has a facial deformity and how he goes to public school for the first time. Very inspiring and has an excellent message.

Third:  I have not been doing too well on my running lately. It has been cold, rainy, and just plain miserable the last few weeks. I have only made it out a few times each week. The highlight was last week when I ran with my daughter during her first 5K. She participated in Girls On The Run this year, which is a pretty cool program to get kids running without realizing they’re running. We finished our 5K in 25 minutes — BAM!

Fourth: Speaking of sporadic, I’ve been pretty sporadic with my blogging the last few weeks. In my defense, we are relocating, I am trying to wrap up my job (that I am super sad to be leaving), my parents’ 40th Anniversary is approaching and I’m trying to help plan for that, and… the list actually goes on, but I’ll stop making excuses. It will all be better soon….right?!

Fifth: Speaking of blogging – I got my first paid post the other day! Yay me! I also managed to pick up my first paid social share campaign too. I’m not going to quit my day-job or anything, but I did do the happy dance when the money showed up in my PayPal account!

That’s all the randomness I have in me at this late hour.

Until Next Time,
Meg

Thursdays Are For Thinking Out Loud

Thinking-Out-Loud2Have I mentioned how much I love the Thinking Out Loud linkup hosted by Amanda at runningwithspoons.com?! Some days, randomness is the only way it’s going to get done!

So, without further adieu….

1. The Job Search
As you all know, I am moving soon (it seemed to be so far into the future, but now it is looming closer and closer!). I have not gone on a major job search, but I have been keeping tabs on LinkedIn and other employment sites for opportunities. I also have reached out to a few key people in the community to which we’re moving to. Last week, I had my first interview in over 10 years. It was a little nerve-racking going in, but when it was over, I felt GREAT!  The interview was 2.5 hours of conversation, sharing experiences, and information gathering in a low stress format. I felt like I totally got the job…. With that being said, it has now been over a week and I have not heard one word from the company. (Sigh)

2. The Headhunters
Speaking of job searches, have you ever had someone reach out to you to try and recruit you? Has it ever been for a position/company that you just didn’t want to work for? I am having a little of that going on as well. On one hand, it feels really nice to be wanted and recognized for my skill set. But on the other hand, it is kind of a dicey situation. I don’t want to make anyone angry as they are community leaders in the town that we are moving to, but by the same token, I just don’t think I’m interested in the type of position they have. I have been working for 2 days to draft a response email that I think will finally go out today. I have delayed sending it in hopes that I would get a job offer from the other company…

3. Running
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that I set a goal to run 100 miles in March. I ran 100 in January and then kind of fell off in February, running only about 65. Today, I am at 87 miles with 5 days left, so I know I’ll make it. I have really had to push it this last 2 weeks because of too many days off earlier in the month. I desperately want a rest day, but I just can’t handle being this close and not making it! I think this happened in January as well, which might explain my February lack of mileage. Eventually, I will find a happy medium! I signed up with Run This Year to run 1,000 miles in 2015. I think I’m on track to do so. That is if I don’t burnout first.

4. Chocolate

Cadbury Mini EggsWhy is it that they only break out the Cadbury Mini Eggs at Easter?  If you haven’t tried them, they are seriously the best chocolate ever! Deliciously melting in your mouth – the rich chocolate and the hard candy shell. I love M & Ms, but they don’t hold a candle to these babies. I am absolutely addicted. I guess it’s good that they only sell them at Easter!

5. Recent Purchases
I’ve recently purchased a couple of items that I cannot wait to arrive! Both are from online boutiques that feature gently used designer items. One is from ThredUp and is a Kate Spade Wristlet and the other is from The Fashion Project and is a J Crew structured handbag. I guess I should mention that I’m also obsessed with purses, bags, totes, clutches, etc.

Anyway, that’s all the rambling that I have in me today. Have a great day! Oh, and feel free to tell me about your job hunting experiences, candy addictions, and recent purchases!

Until Next Time,
Meg
