Think Out Loud

Welcome to Thursdays are for Thinking Out Loud! Thank you to Amanda for hosting this fun weekly link-up!

Hooray for a community full of awesome running trails! I recently had to travel for work and I could hardly wait for my morning run because of the great trail system located Just. Outside. my Hotel.

I miss running trails. Have I whined about mentioned that lately? We used to live across the street from the start of a wonderful running trail. I love everything about our new location except for the lack of any running trails within 20 miles (sad face).

Speaking of hotel stays. I just got this new set of resistance bands to review, so I threw them in my suitcase for the occasion and was pleasantly surprised at how different they were from all my other bands. These are from TKO and they look like this:

They have adjustable tension and are supposed to help you focus on abs and core muscles. I used them for some arm and ab exercises and gave my legs a break after my run. *I did receive this product complimentary in exchange for my honest review. However, the above link is not an affiliated link.

If you have never experienced spring in the midwest, I have to tell you — it is a crazy time of year. A typical week includes two different seasons. For example, Tuesday (the day that I ran on the awesome trail) it was 77 degrees with no wind. Wednesday, I had to leave work at 3:30 and drive in a raging blizzard and whiteout conditions (in fact, my kids were released from school at noon due to the winter weather). It is SO crazy and confusing.

Last weekend it was absolutely beautiful and we spent the day at my parents’ ranch. This fella says “hey, have a nice weekend.”

Until Next Time,

Good to be Back: The Ultimate Coffee Date

coffee date linkup

Good afternoon friends! It has been SO long since I last participated in the Ultimate Coffee Date Link-up hosted by Coco at Running with Perseverance, Deborah at Confessions of A Mother Runner and Lynda at Fitness Mom Wine Country. So much has changed in my life since the last time we “talked” over coffee! Let’s catch us!

If we were having coffee…we would leave off where we last spoke and you’d ask me whether or not I found a job. I’d tell you that I did, in fact, find a job. I’d remind you how last time I said that I believed that everything happened for a reason and I still do firmly believe that, maybe even more so. Remember how I was sad to leave my last employer, how I had the Best. Boss. Ever.? Well, that amazing boss happened to leave his post in my previous town and happened to move to a town near my new town. Are you following? There came a position open that we both applied for. He, of course, has vastly more experience than I, but we both received interviews and both were named finalists. Then, the most amazing thing happened….they hired both of us! So, here I am working in a job very similar to my last role for the EXACT same boss! Now, if that doesn’t affirm that things happen for a reason– that you should trust the path, then I don’t know what does!

If we were having coffee…you would ask me how I like living in my new town. I’d tell you that it is amazing! We actually live about 2 miles outside of town on a small acreage and it is everything that I’ve ever wanted. I grew up in a rural setting — actually 40 miles north of a rural setting — on a ranch in the middle of nowhere! We didn’t have neighbors for miles and the nearest town was 40 miles away. Oh, and I should mention that the town had just a few more than 200 population. So this, 2 miles from town and 20 miles from a larger community with shopping, medical services, jobs, and eateries, is perfect.

If we were having coffee…you would want to hear about my running. I’d tell you that I started off strong when I first started my new job back in November. I’d admit to you that I missed being able to get my kids ready for school and then go run without having a work schedule dictating the length of the run/shower/get ready process. I’d say that my mileage fell off a bit towards the end of November and then completely off in December. I’m getting back into it and did a 7.5 miler today. I didn’t set any records, but I finished it with a good attitude. I’ve registered for a half marathon in May to keep me motivated.

If we were having coffee… I might also reveal to you that my blogging and ambassadorships have taken a hit since I started my new job. I worked very hard to build up my social media following, try and blog regularly, post product reviews, etc. and I’ve been waning a bit lately. Actually, I was waning for the last 3 months. I’ve gotten a renewed sense of motivation recently and I plan to keep it! So that means that you can expect to see me here next month for another cup of coffee.

Until Next Time,

Do you struggle with motivation? What keeps you going or what gets you going again?

Hooray for Thinking Out Loud Thursday

Today I am linking up with Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursday. Thank you Amanda for hosting this super fun link-up!

Friends! It has been a long time and I have much to tell you and, in sticking with the theme — it will be random!

You're HiredI have a job — yay me! As most of you know, due to a relocation this summer, I have been without a full time job. Currently, I have been a freelance writer for the website Fashion Week and that has been a lot of fun and different than anything I have done before. In addition to that, I had explored several possibilities and finally landed a really great opportunity in a field that I am truly passionate about – Economic/Community Development and Marketing/Communications. I am thrilled and I start Monday!

clockDaylight Savings Time – I’m sure you are all aware that Daylight Savings Time ends on Saturday/Sunday. For some of us, this is viewed as a life-saver and for others, it messes up their sleep patterns and they are grumpy for the next 30 days. I, for one, love to fall back, to have an extra hour of sleep, for the sun to be nearly up when I go for a run. I am especially excited this year because it will be just in time for me to start my new job and new routine!

If you recall, I set a goal for myself this year to run 1000 miles by the end of 2015. If you don’t recall, you can check out my goals here. Right now, I am at 750 miles and the goal is within reach, but still quite far away. I got behind this summer with the move, logging only 73 miles in May and June. I am paying for those months now and the outlook is bleak. With my job starting next week, I am a little worried. Stay tuned on whether or not I can get those last 250 miles in the next two months!

My final random thought for today is to shamelessly talk about a new product that I LOVE!

I received two Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks from Influenster a month ago and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! They are from the Rouge Pur Couture collection. The colors that I received are No. 19 Fuchsia and No. 9 Rose Pink. See my LinkedIn pic at left for a visual on the Rose Pink. Another fun fact, I wore it to my job interview! The fuchsia is super fun and I’ve been wearing it everywhere! See below:

The packaging is also super cool. It’s in the YSL iconic gold tubes — beautiful!

So that’s it! Those are my random thoughts of the day. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to visit the other blogs in the link-up!

Until Next Time,

Thinking Out Loud: My Week in Pictures

Friends! It has been a super long time since I linked up with Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud Thursdays and I have missed it! This is one of my favorite link-ups because it can be totally random and sometimes I need random!

This week, I’m showcasing my week (or maybe my September) with photographs. Enjoy!

image new haircut!

I got my hair cut at the beginning of the month. I adored my long hair, but this summer I was pretty hard on it and did not get regular trims and it was starting to look pretty tacky, so to bring it back to healthy — I chopped it off!  The short hair has been fine since I’m not working, but when I go to fix it, I really miss the ease of my long hair. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I have been second guessing not going shorter. I mean if I’m going to go for a major change, why not go for it?! What do you think? Leave it or go a bit shorter?

As most of you know, we relocated this summer and now we live in an awesome old house in the country. We have been super busy with renovations, but did manage to take some time this past weekend to try out our “new” makeshift fire pit at our little pond. It was super fun! We made s’mores, did a little fishing (saw a super gross spider — see below), and played a hide and seek game in the dark under a full moon. We made some great memories!

This picture does not do justice to the amazing sunrises that we have been having lately. This one was taken the morning after the eclipse. Did you all see the eclipse of the super moon? AWE-SOME!

Yes — super gross! For those of you that are fascinated by all things nature and spider-y, this spider was a mamma spider and had hundreds (seemed like thousands) of tiny baby spiders all over her body. When I tapped the camping chair to get her off, they fled and It. Was. Aweful. I cannot believe that I did not wet my pants. I am super afraid of spiders, though living in the country I am getting braver, but EEEEK!

Ahhh, National Coffee Day….need I say more? Oh, ps: I have been enjoying cereal with milk in the mornings, which I haven’t done in forever! This is Raisin Bran Crunch with skim – delish!

Coke ZeroThis was meant to be. I opened the cooler at the supermarket and there was my name so I had to have it! Those Coca Cola marketers are just pure Genius with a capital G!

I’ll end with this. I saw this super cute wood sign at our Hobby Lobby that recently opened. I purchased a canvas and plan to make one similar. I love this saying, “Make it Happen”. You can sit by and complain about all the things you aren’t happy with — or you can make a change and make things happen!

Happy Thursday! Happy October! Make it a great one!

Until Next Time,

August Ultimate Coffee Date

Oh how I’ve missed our coffee dates the past few months! The first Saturday of the month tends to sneak up on me! Thank you to Coco, Deborah and Lynda for hosting this fun Link-Up!

Let’s get started!

If we were having coffee… We would be on my new porch enjoying the coolness of the morning. You would, no doubt, ask me if we are getting settled into our new house. You’d ask about any renovations and moving highlights. I’d tell you that we are getting settled. I love my new 102 year old Queen Anne-style house and there are renovations, but they are actually kind of fun because the house is so cool!

If we were having coffee….the moving question would bring up the job topic and you would ask me if I had found a job yet. I’d tell you that I was lucky to be able to work with my previous employer through the end of July and that I have officially become “unemployed” only a couple of days ago. I cried when I received my “termination benefits” (what a terrible title for things like insurance close-out, final paychecks, etc). I loved my job and was very sad to leave it, but I was blessed to work from home these past two months. I have had the best. summer. ever. I have not ever been able to stay at home with my kids and this situation allowed me to do just that and we are having a great and priceless time together this summer. It is also a great opportunity for my husband and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

If we were having coffee…You would ask me what my dream career is or what I can see myself doing and I would tell you that I’m agonizing over finding a job that is a good fit for me now. I’ve been contacted by several Insurance companies about coming on board, but I don’t know the first thing about selling insurance and am not sure it’s my calling. I’ve met with a few key people at one of the major employers in the area and think that my skills would be put to work there, but have not had an actual interview for an actual job yet. I know that any day now, my husband will begin freaking out that I don’t have a job and I just want to have some good prospects lined up before that happens. My biggest fear is that I’ll end up taking the first thing that comes along just to get a job and then I’ll hate it. But, enough whining from me! I am a big believer that things happen for a reason and that the right thing will come.

If we were having coffee….you would ask me how my running is going? I’d tell you that I have found a gravel road not too far from the house that I like to run on. I am a creature of habit and I’ll likely run on this same road every day…at least until it is dark in the mornings and then I may have to figure something else out. I’m a bit of a chicken, you see, and I don’t want to be hit by a car. Most people that are driving in this rural area on these gravel roads are not expecting nor looking out for runners on the road. We will see what winter brings and I’ll fill you in over coffee late this fall.

I better sign off now, but I will see you next month and can’t wait to fill you in on all the latest!

Until Next Time,

Hooray For Thinking Out Loud Thursday!

Thinking-Out-Loud2I have so much to update you on, however it is all so random that it is perfect for me to compose this post to link-up with Amanda at Running With Spoons on Thursdays Are For Thinking Out Loud!

First things first: We are moving in less than a week! YIKES! Are you ready, you might ask. And I would tell you say, “ready or not…”

Our house is a disaster of boxes and loose items. I can’t find anything, but we are making progress. We did take a large load of furniture down to storage and hopefully we only have 2-3 trips left. The goal is to have an empty house at least one full day before the closing (so I can clean and not leave any embarrassing dust bunnies or unidentifiable substances behind the kitchen appliances).

Second: I just finished reading the most wonderful book with my 11 year old daughter. The book is called Wonder and was one that her teacher picked out. It is an amazing story about a 5th grade boy who has a facial deformity and how he goes to public school for the first time. Very inspiring and has an excellent message.

Third:  I have not been doing too well on my running lately. It has been cold, rainy, and just plain miserable the last few weeks. I have only made it out a few times each week. The highlight was last week when I ran with my daughter during her first 5K. She participated in Girls On The Run this year, which is a pretty cool program to get kids running without realizing they’re running. We finished our 5K in 25 minutes — BAM!

Fourth: Speaking of sporadic, I’ve been pretty sporadic with my blogging the last few weeks. In my defense, we are relocating, I am trying to wrap up my job (that I am super sad to be leaving), my parents’ 40th Anniversary is approaching and I’m trying to help plan for that, and… the list actually goes on, but I’ll stop making excuses. It will all be better soon….right?!

Fifth: Speaking of blogging – I got my first paid post the other day! Yay me! I also managed to pick up my first paid social share campaign too. I’m not going to quit my day-job or anything, but I did do the happy dance when the money showed up in my PayPal account!

That’s all the randomness I have in me at this late hour.

Until Next Time,

Ultimate Coffee Date Link-Up

I can’t believe it’s already time for another Coffee Date! I have much to update you on. Thanks to Coco for hosting this awesome link up! Let’s get to it!

If we were having coffee….you would ask me how the moving plans are going. I’d tell you that we decided to list our house for sale by owner (because we weren’t in a hurry) and it sold in 8 days (barring any unforeseen loan or inspection issues on the part of the buyer).

If we were having coffee…you would want to know if I’m freaking out yet. I’d be honest with you and tell you that I am freaking out just a little bit. All this time, June 1 has seemed so far away. I hadn’t been looking too hard for a job, we thought it would take a month or two to sell our house… But yeah, it’s getting real now and a little too quickly! We are scheduled to close on our current house May 1 and the house we’re buying May 29. Notice a discrepancy?!

If we were having coffee…you’d tell me to take a deep breath and relax. Things happen for a reason and it will all work out. I would sigh, nod, and realize that there are much worse things to stress about.

If we were having coffee…you’d lighten the conversation up by asking about my running. I’d tell you that after a rather unmotivated February, I am ready to ramp up my miles again. I have once again set a 100 mile goal for the month. So far, I am right on track. I’d like to get ahead, but with the coming few days, that is unlikely so I will settle for on track for now.

If we were having coffee…I’d tell you thank you so much for the coffee date, it was good to vent a little and I feel much better about things. I’d promise to meet you again on the first Saturday of April, which is right around the corner…

Thanks for stopping by!

Thinking Out Lout Thursday

I love Thinking Out Loud Thursdays! Thanks to Amanda for hosting!

Random Thought #1
The last several days have been cuh-razy! First, we put our house on the market on Saturday afternoon. It was not “show-ready” by any means. There was still the usual clutter, after all it was the weekend. But, by Sunday mid-morning, show ready or not, we had two families lined up to look at it late in the afternoon. We had 3 hours to get it into tip-top condition. We (the entire family) cleaned like mad people. We scrubbed, changed out shower curtains, washed windows and mirrors, cleaned the grout, and organized and de-cluttered closets, dusted, and vacuumed. I’m not going to lie, with 10 minutes to show time, we were stashing random items in boxes, under beds, and other odd places. The house looked fabulous. I hope it looked fabulous to the families that looked at it. It is a great house and I am sorry to move from it.

Random Thought #2
Speaking of relocating, I met with a couple of human resource representatives at a major employer in the community in which we’re moving to. It was an interesting meeting – not about a specific position, just a get-to-know-you type meeting. I’m not sure if anything will come out of it, but I feel like I’ve finally made some forward movement on the job hunt. I have not been motivated to look for a job since we aren’t moving until this summer plus, I love my current position and want to remain in it until the last possible moment (and then maybe a few weeks longer). This week, in particular, the meeting with the HR reps pushed me over the hump and I began a more active search. I reached out to two other companies and feel that I might have some real leads with a couple of key employers in the community. We shall see…

Random Thought #3
My seven year old daughter came in early this morning and snuggled with me. It is one of my favorite things. She came in just 20 minutes before I planned to go for my run. Instead of getting up early to get all my winter running gear on, I stayed snuggled in close to her for a few more minutes, threw on my shorts and just ran on the treadmill.

Random Thought #4
I changed my blog over from to this week. Actually, I started the process about 10 days ago and just finally had time this week to finish up the transfer. I am no technology genius, but I consider myself to be pretty savvy, that is up until I started the process. It was a little frustrating and confusing, but all in all, I think I did okay. I’m sure there will be some pains along the way, but hopefully this will improve my readership and opportunities. Please leave me feedback and advice – I am still a Newbie!

That’s all for now. Thanks for allowing me to ramble on this Thinking Out Loud Thursday!

Until Next Time,

The Ultimate Coffee Date Link-Up

The Ultimate Coffee Date

Today I’m linking up with Confessions of a Mother Runner,  Fitness Mom Wine Country and Got2Run4Me in the Ultimate Coffee Date Link-up that they host on the first Saturday of each month. This is my first time linking up with them and I have to say, I LOVE the format — casual, fun, informative — Let’s get started!

If we were having coffee….You’d probably ask what was new with me. And I’d tell you that I didn’t know where to begin. I’d tell you that my husband just recently accepted a new position in a community a couple of hours away. That the new position will start July 1 and we will all be relocating early this summer. I’d tell you that I don’t have a job yet or even any leads (but that I’m hopeful). I’d also tell you that I feel both excitement and sadness at the opportunities that lay before us. I’d tell you that I am sad to leave behind the perfect job that I have with the perfect boss and the perfect colleagues. And yet, I’m excited at the chance to start something new, meet new people, make friends, plus it is a really great opportunity for my husband to advance.

If we were having coffee….I’d tell you that I’m doing pretty well with my fitness goals for 2015. I participated in a challenge to run 100 miles in the month of January – and I DID IT! I’d tell you that I was now ready to commit to trying yoga on a regular basis. You’d ask me to keep you posted on my progress and I’d promise to do so.

If we were having coffee…. I’d talk to you about what races I want to sign up for this year. I’d ask you your thoughts on either the Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half or the Mickelson Trail Half. I’d also tell you that the new community that we are moving to has a lot of racing opportunities and I am excited about that.

If we were having coffee…. It would probably be time to go pick up the kids, go for a run, squeeze in some yoga, write a blog post, or go back to work. We would hug and tell each other how great it was to chat and promise to meet up again March 7 for another Ultimate Coffee Date.

Until Next Time,

5 Things Friday – In Snapshots

This has been a crazy week. I attribute it to the wild weather pattern that we experienced. We had below 20 degrees with 5-6 inches of snow and a snow day for the kids followed by a 50+ degree day and today it’s nearly 70 degrees. CRAZY!

I’m glad it’s a 5 Things Friday day and even more fun that I’m doing it in snapshots. See below my post for the Link-Ups that I’m participating in today and join in on the fun!

Wrapping up the #NoExcuses #SweatPink Challenge. It was a fun week of yoga, push-ups, high knees, and planks.

Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar

Running outside always takes its toll on my skin, whether it be protecting it from the sun or the wind and cold – a good moisturizer is always essential. This Renewed Hope in a Jar is a great choice. It is time released moisture and feels luxurious! Plus, the theme is kind of my motto: Live with optimism renew with hope..

Aeropostale, VSX, SparklySoul, FlipBelt

Fun workout clothes. As you all know, I LOVE pink (borderline obsessive). This top and pants are from Aeropostale (who knew they had such cute workout clothes?!). The Bra is from Victoria’s Secret Sport, FlipBelt, and Sparkly Soul headbands.

Nothing like a warm day to convince me to add a little color into my drab winter wardrobe!
