All I Want For Christmas: The Ultimate Gift Guide for Runners

All I Want For Christmas

It is that time of year again where gift guides flood my feed on social media channels and my RSS feed. It is one of my favorite times of year because what better way find items that I’m sure I would be coveting if I knew they were out there?!

Not to be left out, I’ve created my own list of items that happen to be on my own Christmas list this year!

Reflective Vest from Lululemon

Reflective Vest from Lululemon (this is NOT an affiliate link)

I have been crushing on vests lately. I mean what’s not to love? Perfect when the weather is just starting to get chilly and then as an added layer to keep the core warm on those really cold days. This one from Lululemon even has reflective elements to make early morning running (or night running) safer!

I am always on the lookout for a warm pair of gloves. My hands and fingers get cold and stay cold — all. the. time. So imagine how they fair when I’m running in a slight breeze at 10 degrees which pretty much describes a typical day in Nebraska during winter. Brrr! I am frugal and want to get the best bang for my buck, so I read reviews like a crazy person. I love this post by Be Well Philly about gloves. I think I’m going to order this pair from Manzella (Not an affiliate link).

Apple Watch Series 3

At the top of my wish list

The Apple Watch Series 3 is at the TOP of my wish list this year. A couple of weeks ago I got a chance to venture into an Apple Store and tried on all the styles of the Apple Watch and I. Want. One. I love that with the latest series you can use the watch on a cellular network and don’t have to have your phone with you. Plus, I just got a pair of wireless earbuds and these would pair perfectly with a new Apple Watch — just saying!

Tabio USA

Fun Socks or just plain ol’ good quality running socks. These from Tabio USA are amazing. They actually have built in arch support plus grippers on the bottoms. They come in a variety of styles, including the toe socks. The arch support is really a game-changer. I have feet issues (read, Plantar Fasciitis all the time) and I can just feel these socks helping!  *I received this pair complimentary for review purposes, but I would definitely buy more pairs! Head over to their Instagram page now to enter to win a pair of your own (just by following them!)

Also for the runner on your list that braves the wind and the cold all winter long — a good moisturizer makes an excellent gift. This one shown is the Active Hydration Serum from Rodan + Fields (you know, those doctors that formulated Proactive?) This stuff is Uh-mazing! It goes on light and is like a drink of water for you skin. You can get yours here from yours truly.

Finally, you can’t go wrong with a fitness lifestyle shirt. I love these two from On Your MarQ and Stiletto Running, but there are so many to choose from these days.

Stiletto Running Scoop Neck

The Road is My Runway from Stiletto Running

Wide Neck Sweatshirt from OnYourMarQ

What is on your list this year? What are you giving to those fit friends in your life?

And Just Like That…Fall Is In The Air

With a title like that, I am sure you are expecting me to talk about the leaves, the crisp cool mornings, how it is super dark (and somewhat scary) out on my morning runs… BUT, you would be mistaken! I am going in a totally different direction this time!

With the start of fall, comes the rush of the holiday season. I am sure there is a study somewhere that shows that time actually speeds up during this time of year and if you close your eyes for too long, the year will be over and we’ll be ringing in 2017.

It is because of this time-moving-at-warp-speed thing, that I fail Every. Single. Year. to get my Christmas cards out on time (on time = before Christmas). Last year, I didn’t even get them out by Valentine’s Day!

I stumbled upon Basic Invite late in the summer when researching holiday cards and I love the many creative cards with fun colors and cool fonts.

Keep reading to see how you can win 50 free customizable cards from Basic Invite!

Basic Invite has almost unlimited color options with over 160 different colors!  Once you select a card design, you can change the color of each element on the card and get instant previews online. Speaking of colors, even the envelopes come in over 40 different color options!

Basic Invite Color Options

This is an example of the editor box. Once you select a color or element you want to customize, the options seem endless!

In addition, Basic Invite lets you order a printed sample of the actual card. I don’t know about you, but I am a fan of touch. I have to feel everything (my husband always complains about this when he shops with me). Who knew this would be so important when selecting cards, wedding invitations, baby announcements?! You get to actually feel the paper, the embossed lettering, the envelopes (which are peel and stick, I might add)!

Basic Invite has a huge library of cards ranging from thank you notes, invitations, save-the-dates, bridal or baby shower, graduation…you name it! I just happen to be a fan of Christmas cards!

Here are a couple of the examples that I created on the site. Now to narrow it down to my favorite!

….And because I couldn’t choose a favorite, I ordered 5!

This one might be my favorite!

These two give me a huge window to send out (the Most Wonderful Time of Year starts in November and goes through January, right?!)

The card stock is super heavy, yet still feels premium

Which one is  your favorite? Do you send Christmas or Holiday cards? More importantly, do you get them out on time?!

Until Next Time,
Meg

A Merry Merry Christmas Survey

I came across this Christmas Survey on a blog I follow – Road Runner Girl and I thought it was such a good idea that I wanted to do it too! It turns out, that is what she thought as well because she got the idea from Jill Conyer’s blog who stole borrowed the idea from Running With Spoons. See? Good idea, right?

Egg Nog or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate for sure. Currently, I am obsessed with the Starbucks Double Chocolate hot cocoa mix.

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Unwrapped by the fire place (the tree is too close to my girls’ bedrooms.

Our railing with giant colored LED bulbs. (And yes, our cat Phineas loves to look at the lights!)

Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Both! I like the clean and simple look of white lights on the tree. This way the ornaments can do the talking! I also LOVE The giant multi-colored led bulbs on our banister. They are just So. Much. Fun.

Do you hang mistletoe?
No. I am not even sure where to get mistletoe….

When do you hang your decorations up?
We decorate after Thanksgiving — Sometimes the weekend after Thanksgiving and sometimes a week afterwards.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
It’s not really a holiday dish, but we always make soup on Christmas Eve. When I was growing up, my mom made oyster soup (yuck!) and we HAD to eat at least a little bit in order to open presents. Now, we make chicken noodle and a sort of jambalaya on Christmas Eve.

Favorite holiday memory as a child?
My brother, sister, and I used to all sleep in the same room on Christmas Eve. We’d “camp out” in my sister’s room and sneak out to the living room to see if Santa had visited yet. The anticipation was a killer!

What is on your Christmas wish-list?
I really need some wind-proof running pants. I’m trying to run outside this winter and I’m such a wimp! I also really want some no-heel, black ankle boots. Other than that, I just want to be able to relax with family.

Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?
We typically open our gifts on Christmas Eve. That was my family tradition. My husband’s tradition when he was growing up was to wait until Christmas Day, so sometimes we wait.

Howgirls christmas do you decorate your Christmas tree?
We just let the girls put their ornaments on wherever they want. This year my husband created a “man section” and hung all his manly ornaments in one section. Goofball!

Real tree or fake tree?
We bought a nice fake tree that is pre-lit a few years ago and I will never go back! You don’t have the mess of the needles or the water spilling. The only thing I miss is the smell and I have a Scentsy that takes care of that!

Snow? Love it or dread it?
I like a white Christmas. What I don’t like is a super cold and blustery Christmas. Just snow, peaceful and white, but nice enough for sledding and building snowmen.

Do you remember your favorite gift?
Oh, that’s a tough one! I remember one year we got sleds from Santa and we snuck out to the living room in the middle of the night and pulled them back to my sister’s room. We then slept in our sleds the rest of the night!

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
Spending time with family.

What is your favorite holiday dessert?
My mother-in-law makes this Golden Graham Snack Mix that is really delicious. We make it every year for Christmas.

What is your favorite tradition?
This is more of a New Year’s Eve tradition rather than a Christmas tradition: we celebrate NYE as a family and for the past 3 years we’ve done a variety of activities on the hours leading up to the big moment. We make time capsules and read last year’s capsule. We make a snack, do a craft, and then have a dance party – in the dark – with glow sticks, glow balloons, and flashing headbands, etc. Then we “camp out” as a family in the basement.

What tops your tree?
We have an angel on the top of our tree.

Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?
I love giving gifts to others. There is nothing better than watching someone open up a gift that they truly love. I especially love to watch my children’s faces as they open their gifts.

What is your favorite Christmas song?
Do I have to choose a favorite?! I love Christmas music! The Little Drummer Boy, Frosty The Snowman, Silent Night,…I love them all!

Candy canes, yuck or yum?
I like them okay. I don’t eat them often, but we did get some this year.

Christmas vacation

Favorite Christmas Movie?
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

What do you leave for Santa?
Milk and cookies and sometimes a note from the kids.

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
We wake up early to see what Santa brought. I need to think about starting a Christmas morning breakfast tradition…. Not sure what we’ll have this year!

Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?
I prefer to shop in person, however this year, I did some shopping online. We live rather far from any shopping and I didn’t get everything on the one and only trip we made.

Christmas letter or Christmas card?
We send a Christmas photo card. I’d love to write a letter, but it never gets done! This year, I actually got the cards out a week before Christmas and that hasn’t happened in a while!

This is our Christmas Card this year. We had a year of Jumping for Joy!

I’d love to hear some of your Christmas traditions and memories!
