Five [random] Things Friday

Love this totally random sign …. uh yeah, about the soccer field being on the archery range – yikes!

It’s FRIDAAAAAYYYYYY!! I don’t know about you but for me, this day took its time getting here! To celebrate another week in the books, I’ve put together this Five [random] Things Friday post. Enjoy!

Rest Day – I have to admit that I’m actually having more of a “rest week.” I’ve been running ragged lately with work and family activities that I am just plain exhausted. Sometimes You just have to take care of you. You know that saying, “if you’re cup is empty how can you fill up others’ cups…” or something like that. I decided to refill up my cup this week. The Selfie Light – here I am showing off with my new selfie light that I got from Rodan + Fields with my new eye cream. It is going to be a game-changer or at least a fun-maker 🙂

I Love the Eighties – we recently went to a 50th birthday bash for my sister-in-law. It was an eighties theme and It. Was. Amazing. As you can see from the photo below, my family went all in. My bangs were like blades — even after I slept on them. Oh, and here’s something random: the DJ played all the best of the 80s songs for 4 hours – FOUR! and the one tune that stuck in my head was “Don’t You Forget about Me” ugh!

This New Workout App – Through my affiliation with Sweat Pink Ambassadors, I’ve been able to try out Gixo for the last few weeks and it’s been really fun. It’s an interactive workout app that has LIVE classes with LIVE coaches! Since I work out totally alone 99.9% of the time, I like the tiny bit of competition that you get out of the classes (I like to try and have the most reps or beat my pace goals). You can try it free for a month via this link.

Stiletto Running Ambassador – That’s right, I’m super pumped to be part of the Runway Crew 2018 for Stiletto Running! I’ve ordered a couple of shirts and Can. Not. Wait. for them to arrive! yay! Stiletto Running Ambassador

What’s random in your week? Have you ever taken a “rest week”?

Until Next Time,

Friday Five

This is a rather random Friday Five list, but hey, I’m going for it!

For those that suffer from dark circles….

I promise, I’m not getting any kickbacks for plugging this product! This Cover Fx color corrector is AWESOME! I struggle with dark circles under my eyes (Let’s not get into the multitude of reasons why). I’ve tried many products and my previous favorite, which deserves some time in the spotlight as well was Benefit Fake Up. But this—Cover Fx stick in peach, absolutely erases my dark circles. Plus, it’s not cakey and doesn’t settle into fine lines. <3 it! Again, no kickbacks or affiliate links, but just so it’s easy for you to find, here is where I bought mine.

For those coffee + protein lovers…

Full disclosure: I received this Click coffee + protein powder for free in exchange for my honest review and HERE is my affiliate link. Okay, formalities aside, this is The. Best. Protein. Ever. It is just absolutely scrumptious! And it packs a whopping 25 grams of protein. No joke, I have a shake in the morning and do not get hungry until 11:55am. It’s like a dream!

For those obsessed with pace/distance…

Yeah, so this happened to me recently. I’m usually not totally obsessed with my watch during my run, but I do really like to know when it’s all over, how far I went and how fast, so this was pretty disappointing. Especially since I was really going for it and ran nearly record pace (for a training run) for the first few miles. I guess I’ll have to do it again so I can track it!

For those that <3 anything sparkly…

I love happy (sparkly) mail days! I got home today to find this super sparkly headband (that includes a crown) from Sparkly Soul, Inc. What a great company to be an ambassador for! I’m going to let my daughter wear it tomorrow in the Girls on the Run 5K. I’ll be sporting my Dreamcatcher headband.

For those of you in the midwest dealing with un-spring-like weather…

Yeah, so remember in the previous picture how I mentioned the Girls On the Run 5K that is tomorrow? Looks like fun for 300+ young girls trying to develop a love of running (and for their moms or whoever they are running with). Brisk 43 degrees with 20 mph winds and rain/snow. I love running… I love running…. I love running… I love running….

Happy weekend everyone!
Until Next Time,

I’m linking up with the Friday Five 2.0 and Fit & Fashionable Friday

Five Things Friday: Wellness & Fitness Edition

Welcome FRIDAY! Whew, it has been a week! Am I right or am I right? This week’s Five focuses on fitness & wellness trends in 2017.

**All opinions are just that, opinions!**2017 Fitness & Wellness TrendsSupplements: I don’t see supplements going away any time soon. In fact, I see new formulas popping up All. The. Time. Whether the supplements be for better nutrients, electrolytes, boost immunity, boost stamina — they will continue to be relevant throughout 2017 (and beyond!) I recently received a jar of HANAH One – a botanical supplement – to sample and review. The claim is that it helps with focus, balance, mindfulness, immunity, the works! The trick is that you have to use it daily and it tastes pretty bad (sorry, just being honest!) I have found that when I mix it in with a fairly strong flavored herbal tea, the wangy (yes, I just made that a word) flavor is much less noticeable. I’m going to keep using it to see if I see the benefits (which usually are noticeable after 7 days of continued use, according to their website.) Stay tuned!

Athleisure: aka – leggings all day, every day! Okay, for those of us that can’t get away with leggings daily at the office, be on the lookout for work appropriate athleisure. Think: dress pants in sweat-wicking fabric (perfect for a quick lunch hour workout). Well + Good calls it: Workleisure!  I ran across this brand (that I have yet to try) that offers a variety of dress pant yoga jeans – wait, what?! Yes Please!

Fitness Trackers: These babies are not only not going away, there are becoming more and more options on the racks, from the Fitbit (whatever the latest model is) to the Apple Watch to the new Garmin Fenix (which I. Must. Get.) These devices can tell you nearly anything you’d want to know about your body. Down to the VO2 max. The best thing about them is that it doesn’t matter your fitness level, there is a device for everyone! Even the fashion industry has jumped on the bandwagon!

I get giddy when I get 100% on my Jawbone UP Move

Clean Beauty: I know I am focusing on fitness and wellness, but I’d be remiss not to include at least one beauty item in my post! The trend of knowing all the ingredients in your makeup, skincare, and hair products is here. It kind of started with the sulfate-free products and has gained some traction. Now there are whole lines of products using the phrase “non-toxic” on their marketing materials, from nail polish to foundation to eye cream.

Unique Spins on Old Workouts: I’m an ambassador for Sweat Pink and right now we are right in the middle of a HIIT Yoga Challenge. Who knew that yoga could also work for High Intensity Interval Training? Check out the Fit Approach Instagram feed for the next week to see how!

I’d love to hear your predictions for trends in 2017!

Until Next Time!

Friday Five: 5 Things to do for newbies at your gym

It’s that time of year when the gyms are flooded with new people, the trails are being utilized by those that have never set foot out, yoga studios have expanded classes for new students, etc. Ahhh, the first week of the new year, a week full of resolutions focused on change.

I always see/hear a lot of grumbling this time of year from fellow gym-goers about the flood of people crowding the machines, the weights, the pool and about how they “can’t wait until they fall off their resolution wagon.”

As a fitness enthusiast, I want everyone to find a passion for fitness, even that new guy that’s on my favorite treadmill at the gym. We should all want that. Let’s resolve to welcome newbies and help them stick to their resolutions for a healthy 2017.

Here are 5 easy ways to get started:

Actually say “welcome, nice to see you here.” Be excited!
High Five: you can never go wrong with a high five (unless they leave you hanging– and then,…well, I’m sorry).

high five left hanging

Find out if they need any help. Show them how to use the machines. Even as a regular gym-goer, there are certain machines that still scare me (Hello Jacob’s Ladder)

Invite them to your favorite exercise class. Again, it is intimidating to walk into a gym for the first time. A class helps ease people into things in a group setting, offering some camaraderie and ultimately support.

Tell them you’ll see them tomorrow: nothing works better than accountability, especially when it comes from a long-time fitness enthusiast/stranger. Just make sure you’re there tomorrow 🙂

Have you welcomed any newbies yet? I’d love to hear how you’re helping others stick to their goals this 2017!

Until Next Time,

Friday Five

This week’s Friday Five features AfterShokz headphones in an effort to promote #AwareWithPink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (which, in case you live under a rock, is the month of October).

1. Tunes that inspire! As you know, I mostly listen to audiobooks during my sweat sessions (if you didn’t know, you can read about my obsession here). I also love old-school tunes such as Free Falling, Baby Got Back, and Bitch (I know, not appropriate, but the tempo is great and it’s fun to sing!) I would love to try AfterShokz new PINK headphones for a coupole of reasons: 1) they are PINK! 2) 25% of each purchase goes to Bright Pink – a non profit that focuses on breast and ovarian cancer awareness and education, and 3) They are safer than my current headphones, which pretty much block out my surroundings (PS: I run with only one earbud in so that I can still hear)

2. Give back!? I am hyper aware during October about Breast Cancer, but I need to do a better job throughout the year of educating and supporting #BCA. One of the things that I really like to do is research which companies donate 100% of proceeds from a purchase to an organization for cancer treatment, education, or research. I love that commitment and always try to purchase from that company. A few examples are: This super cute bra from Aerie, or this Key to the Cure Tee by Christian Louboutin, eos body lotion in Berry Blossom.

3. Be a self care advocateIt’s no secret that I am a fitness fanatic. If I can’t get a good workout in each day, I at least try and get a long walk in either by myself or with my kiddos. I lead by example in my household, always reaching for a healthy snack first (popcorn is a whole grain, right?!) Just kidding, my kids know that we expect them to eat fruit and veggies at every meal and we do the same.

4. Inspiring threads!  While these aren’t exactly inspiring, they are still my favorites of the moment: Of course, I love my Sweat Pink tank and lately, due to the morning chill, I also love my Brooks compression capris. They fall just below my knee, so they are perfect transition-wear for fall to winter. I’m also a stickler about my SparklySoul headbands. Seriously, if you have not tried them yet, you are missing out! I am ordering the reflector one in light of my recent running in the dark (find out about my skunk encounters here) and I might or might not own Every. Single. Pink. one they make.

What’s inspiring is all the pink things that are helping spread awareness for #bca…#wearpinkwednesday such as these cool AfterShokz headphones! I’m definitely a fan of the #AwareWithPink movement!

Trekz Titanium Pink wireless earbuds (AfterShokz is donating 25% of each purchase to Bright Pink!)

5. People who inspire! Nothing inspires me more than my little girls (who aren’t so little anymore — insert sobbing face here). I want to lead by example by leading a healthy lifestyle so that they can have long, happy, healthy lives as well.

Do you do anything special to raise awareness during BCA? Or for any other cause?

Five Things Friday

Happy Friday (Fri-YAY) Ya’ll! Is it me or was this a long week? My days felt fast, but the Week. Dragged. On.

It’s been awhile for me, so I thought I’d ease back into things with a Friday Five post. These are the 5 things I’m loving this very moment (in no particular order)

♥  Yurbuds

I’m not sure if you know this about me, but when I run, I listen to audio books (James Patterson and Janet Evanovich are my favs). In order to hear Every. Single. Word. you have to have the right ear buds. I have tried what seems like every style from the ones that clip over your ears to the plain ol’ Apple ones that come with your device. My search may be over with these Yurbuds. They fit perfectly, don’t hurt, don’t slip or fall out (no matter how sweaty my workout leaves me) er..uh, I mean no matter how blazing fast I’m running.

**Yes, I am aware of my typo in my tweet – insert embarrassed emoji here**

♥  Full Moons

I may or may not have actually howled this morning...

I may or may not have actually howled this morning…

Don’t get dirty thoughts on me. I’m talking about the real moon in the sky. These dark fall mornings have been brutal on my running. I’m kind of a chicken, so when it’s pitch black out and I’m running down the road (slowly) and I hear an animal scurry in front of me, I tend to freak out. Not this morning, though. There was the most beautiful full moon out and I could see the ground!

♥  Snapchat filters

I’ve been having a crazy fun time with Snapchat and all the filters. This week I have been an old man, a monkey, and a creepy alien!

Follow me on Snapchat @pinkess1

♥  Homecoming Week at my kids’ school

This week makes me think back to my glory days. I went all out every day of Homecoming week, dressing up like all the crazy themes (nerds, 70s, old lady, etc). Now it’s my girls’ turn and we have a blast! **Note, I do have a 7th grader this year and apparently it isn’t that cool to dress up on all the days, so she’s noticeably absent in some of the pics.

♥  The scents of fall

Outside of the skunk that I caught a whiff of this morning on my run, I am loving the scents associated with fall. The mornings are beginning to be crisp and fresh. I also love the scents available from Scentsy and Bath and Body Works. My house smells like I’ve been baking pumpkin pies and brewing apple cider — I love it!

What are you loving at this very moment? I’d love to hear from you!

Until Next Time,

Five Things Friday

Ahhh, it has been awhile since I have written a 5 things post. I have quite a list going, but I’ll cap it at 5 and maybe be proactive about next week’s 5 things post!

Since school is starting in less than one week (insert sigh here), I decided to post 5 of my favorite memories that we made this summer. For those of you keeping up, we recently relocated, which meant leaving my previous job. So, since June 1, I have been able to stay at home with my kids and we have had the best. summer. ever.  Below are some photos that only capture a glimpse of the fun that we’ve had!

We took our kids to an eighties “hair band” concert during the local fair. It was awesome! The bass guitarist even handed them his guitar during one of the songs!

Relaxing by the river while my kids play, swim, and build sand castles. It is pure bliss!

Spending time at the lake and finally using our boat! The girls could ride on that tube for hours!

Getting in some quality and “healthy” family time this summer! Including my youngest daughter’s first 1 Mile Kid’s Race!

Enjoying the “country” life at our new house

I have to say that I’m ready for the humidity to go down a bit and for the mornings to be a little cooler, but I am sad to see summer go. It has been the best summer that I’ve ever had. I have never has the chance to stay at home with my girls and I would not trade it for anything!

What are some of your highlights from this summer? Can you believe that summer is already nearing the end?! Happy Friday all!

Until Next Time,

Five Things Friday

Yay, it’s Friday!! You don’t hear that often from someone that is not working a typical M-F job (Note that I did not say unemployed), but there is still something exciting about a Friday. It just feels different. Of course, that could be because this Friday is the day before a holiday and we actually have plans for the weekend that include watching our nephew play baseball and then getting to hang out with extended family for a couple of days, large fireworks displays, backyard BBQ, and relaxation (hopefully)! So Happy Friday and happy Fourth of July!

Here are a few of the things I’m crushing on at the moment…..

ViewSport Sweat Activated tank top. I received this tank and shorts complimentary for review purposes. The cool thing about these tanks is that they have a hidden message that is displayed only after a sweaty workout (a really tough workout, I might add). Mine says Do It and then with sweat it is supposed to say Don’t Quit. As you can see below, I didn’t sweat enough to activate it (though this was an interval day, and I feel like I could not have sweated any more!). The back says work hard over and over and, as you can see below, I did manage to get that to show up. The shirts come with a variety of sayings and they are always running a sale. In fact, this weekend they are running a 4th of July sale offering 40% off the sale items! Use code 40BOOM at checkout.

SkimmLife is a daily news brief. The claim: “we read, so you don’t have to, all you have to do is skim”. The great thing about this newsletter is that the writers have such a quick and witty sense of humor and writing style. I love to read it. It has a variety of news articles from US to World to sports to entertainment. Very fun to read. Sign up here.

Six Pack Fitness lunch bag. Mine is the Innovator Mini in PINK of course! My good friend Kiersten got me this lunch bag as a moving away gift (cue the sobs) and I. Love. it.

First of all, you all know how much I love bags of any kind.  I also always take my lunch with me wherever I go so this was the perfect gift for me. It has perfect portion control containers and ice packs (they are pink too!)

My new logo!

I have been wanting a logo for my site and also to use to make a media kit, which on my list for next week’s goals. I posted the question to my fellow SweatPink Ambassadors as well as to Fitfluential Ambassadors for recommendations of affordable and quick logo creaters. Over 70% recommended Fiverr. So I signed up and selected a designer. The designer was so accommodating as she developed over 15 different designs trying to incorpoate all the items and changes that I requested. In the end, she did not give me anything usable, but she did give me inspiration. So I took to photoshop and the internet (for Photoshop Help)

Fourth of July

Five Things Friday

Sadly, I missed the Thinking Out Loud Link-Up yesterday, in which I planned to share a ton of random thoughts. So today, I’m going to do a Five Things Friday post that is outside of my typical Five Things posts.

As many of you know, we recently moved from one community to a new community about 2 hours away. We were able to find an amazing house with a small acreage. I haven’t moved in 10 years and I had forgotten how much work it is! 10 years + 2 kids and lots of hobbies = WORK! But it has been worth it as I LOVE our “new” house and  property.

This Five Things post features a few of the highlights over the last 2 weeks.

A sneak peak at our “new” house (it had been in one family for 6 generations)!

Breakfast in bed (sort of) We had our mattress in the living room and just crashed there after we finally stopped unloading the trailer at near midnight.

A view from the kitchen window.

….and a view from the back door (see the turkeys?!)

It finally feels like home now that we have a mailbox!

It finally feels like home now that we have a mailbox!

With luck, I’ll get back to regular blogging this next week now that things are finally settling down. We still have a lot of work to do to the house (painting, organizing, yard work, etc), but I should be able to get back to a regular schedule soon. Thanks for bearing with me during my transition!

Until Next Time,

Five Things Friday

I have a gazillion bottles of face wash, eye-shadows, have tried every foundation out there, and don’t get me started on shampoos! I subscribe to Birchbox, so you can imagine how many hair and makeup samples I’ve gone through! While I did not get these products from Birchbox, they are a few of my favorites (of the moment anyway!)

As you all know, I have struggled with acne nearly my entire life — including my entire adult life. From over-the-counter to prescriptions, I have tried about every product out their claiming to be the next best thing. I first sampled Murad Acne Clearing Solution when I received it through the StyleHunters program. It is, quite honestly, the best product that I’ve ever used. It works super well on my adult acne, which we all know is different than teen acne. It is not harsh on my skin, but it rapidly clears up any breakouts. I am not being compensated at all — this is my honest opinion. While it is a little pricey ($39) it lasts a long time because a tiny amount is effective.

This J. Crew handbag is my very first purchase from The Fashion Project. This site created a platform to give back while offering gently used designer items at a discounted price to others. Donors choose their charity and when you purchase their item, a portion of the proceeds go towards that charity. What a novel idea! Plus, I got a super good deal on this genuine leather handbag!

I have sensitive skin — aka, acne prone skin, therefore I am always trying to find the best foundation. I like one that provides decent coverage (to cover my uneven skin tone and red marks), I need one that is not oily and doesn’t clog pores, goes on smooth and not cake-y. To say the least, I am kind of picky when it comes to foundation. I went through the Color IQ at Sephora a while back. If you’re not familiar with that, it is when they do a color check on your skin and then give you an ID number that will list a host of foundations in the color that works for you. It’s awesome for those of us that are hours from a Sephora and must order online. For my first order, I went for this Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation. At first glance, it seemed to be really runny and I was worried about the coverage. I have not be a bit disappointed — except to say that I am nearing the end of my bottle. It is a little pricey, but it happened to be cheaper than my previous favorite (Flawless by Laura Mercier). I will definitely be purchasing this again soon!

Another Urban Decay product is on my list of favorites. I love their eye shadow in Sin which is a shimmery champagne color. As you can see I am scraping out every. last. bit. of my little pot! I love how shimmery this is, but yet appropriate for me (in my 30s) to wear to my conservative office. The biggest drawback is that for one little pot of shadow, it is $18 – Yeouch! I think I’ll wait for a coupon and continue on my quest to match the color with a cheaper brand….

IMG_3560.JPGThe final product on my list, is this shampoo and conditioner combination that I received complimentary from Influenster for testing and review purposes. First of all, I am a huge fan of anything with Argan Oil in it. Especially hair products! This soap smells better than most Argan Oil products (it doesn’t smell manly in the least!). Also, and this is probably my favorite feature, with each purchase of these SoapBox products, they donate money to provide clean drinking water to those in need. Each bottle has a unique Hope Code on the back. When you go to the website and enter in the code, it tells you where the impact is being made for your purchase. It’s awesome!

Something else that’s awesome — the quirky way they write the description on the backs of the bottles. Example: “Directions: apply generously to wet hair, massage into a lather, sing your heart out and then rinse.”

I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of these products or tell me about some of your favorites!

Until Next Time,

*I did receive the SoapBox products from Influenster complimentary for testing purposes, however all opinions are my own.
