Fall Running and The Ultimate Coffee Date Link-Up

the-ultimate-coffee-date2-1-600x600Hello, friends! I’m actually ahead of the game this month (even though the first Saturday of the month happened to fall on the first day of the month!) Super happy to be joining the Ultimate Coffee Date Link-up hosted by Coco at Running with Perseverance and Deborah at Confessions of A Mother Runner. Please stop by their blogs and thank them for hosting!

If we were having coffee….you’d ask me what is new? Since it has ben FOR.EVER. since we last chatted, I’d have a lot to tell you. I’ve been in my position for a year now and things are going well. I’m happy and content and really really busy! I’d also tell you that I’m still writing freelance for FashionWeek.com and love it. It doesn’t pay much at all, so I’m not in it for the money. It is just fun to keep up on the fashion and beauty scene and write super quick articles. Plus, my hope is that it will get my foot in the door for more opportunities. You can check out my stories here.

If we were having coffee….you’d want to know about my running. I’d tell you that this fall has been tough (actually, summer was tough too). My mileage is way down, but I’m still getting out there. Lately it’s been super dark in the mornings and I’m such a chicken! Twice now I’ve encountered a skunk. The first time I didn’t see it until I was almost on top of it. The good news is, that I scared it as much as it scared me, so we both jumped, one of us screamed, and we ran away from each other. This morning I saw him, but luckily I was about 10 yards from him and managed to run across the highway before getting too close.

If we were having coffee….You would likely ask about my kids. They are growing So. Fast. I cannot get over it. I already have a 7th grader?! What?! How did that happen? It’s been pretty fun for the most part. I’m enjoying junior high sports but not junior high drama. I’m sure it will end….

Great to catch up with you! Can’t wait until next month when we can sit down again over coffee and chat.

Tell me about any tips you have for running in the dark or any funny stories about encounters you’ve had on a dark run.

**Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my two giveaways going on right now: Enter to win 50 customized holiday cards from Basic Invite and sign up with Audible for a free 30-day trial!

Until Next Time,

  1. I’m a morning runner too! I highly recommend being VERY visible. I don’t know about where you live, but I find that morning drivers are not looking out for pedestrians when they back out of their driveways. I wear a headlamp, a reflective vest, and blinking red light on my back. I’ve seen a few skunks this week too – out of all of the “wild” animals in the suburbs, they scare me the most!

  2. I don’t like running in the dark either. So I don’t. I am a chicken, but it is because I live in a city and need to be careful.
LOL about the junior high drama. I have 2 girls who are now in high school and they out grow the drama. Luckily. It is still a hard year or 2 to go through…… for them as much as for you !

    • I’m a chicken in the dark too. I’m in a rural area, so I don’t fear other people, but unobservant drivers and scary night animals – Haha!

Glad to hear that they out grow the drama. My 2 daughters are just far apart enough in age, that when one out grows it, the other will be just beginning!

  3. I have come upon a lot of things while running but a skunk is not one or one I would like to. My running has been struggling so much so I decided to take a break from it. I needed some time away to see if it is running itself or if it is me. It’s me so I need to get back out there.

  4. Glad that things are going well for you and that you’re having fun at your job! :]

I don’t run anymore, but back when I did, I’d generally only run in the dark if it was with a friend! Too many creepy stories. x_x

    • I am such a chicken about running in the dark. Plus, I’m not that graceful, so I’m also afraid of hitting a rock or pothole and going down in a messy tangle! My husband takes off about 15 minutes before I do and we go the same direction, so my hope is that 1) he will scare the critters away before I get to them and 2) he will find me if I end up down in the ditch!

    • Contrary to popular belief, they luckily don’t spray upon being startled. The first one I came up on, I literally about stepped on. One more stride and I would have landed right in the middle of him! But…I shot straight up in the air with a shriek when I saw him and he just sat there (without spraying any stink!)
